Open calls for short-term scientific missions, virtual mobility grants, and publication fees in 2023

We have just entered our fourth and final grant period, which will finish on 1 September 2023. We are excited to announce new calls for short-term scientific missions, virtual mobility grants, the virtual networking support grant, and publication fees. Additional information on these opportunities can be found in the attached documents. We especially welcome and encourage new applicants from amongst our network!

SHORT-TERM SCIENTIFIC MISSIONS (STSMs)

The STSM call is attached. STSM applications must be submitted on eCOST and accompanied by a letter of approval by the home and host institution and a work plan. Potential host institutions and their areas of interest can be found here: Scientific Missions | European Cholangiocarcinoma Network (eurocholangionet.eu), though you are free to choose other institutions. The deadline to apply is 31 January 2023, and all STSMs must be completed prior to 1 September 2023.

VIRTUAL MOBILITY (VM) GRANTS

VM applicants are expected to build capacity in virtual collaboration and networking and should submit a project proposal to carry out during the current grant period that reflects these aspects. Examples of potential VM grant projects can be found in the attached annotated rules (page 96). Applications must be submitted through eCOST according to the instructions in the attached VNT user guide.  The deadline to apply is 31 January 2023, and all VM grant projects must be completed prior to 1 September 2023.

VIRTUAL NETWORKING SUPPORT (VNS) GRANT

 APPLICATION: The application shall be submitted in e-COST and include the following information:

1. A description of how the COST Action can benefit from developing virtual networking activities, with a focus on: • Progress towards the MoU objectives and deliverables. • COST Excellence and inclusiveness Policy, specially towards the support of researchers in COST Inclusiveness Target Countries. • Stakeholder engagement and promoting the participation of researchers from NNC and IPC (COST Global Networking).

2. A proposal for the strategy outline on virtual networking, including an approach for coordinating Virtual Mobility Grants (where relevant) by: • Opening calls and managing the evaluation process for awarding the Virtual Mobility Grants. • Supporting and advising beneficiaries of the Virtual Mobility Grant. Additionally, the proposal shall include a plan on coordinating and reporting any planned COST Action events that will be held online (e.g. Annual Meeting or Conference) and how they fit the overall Action strategy.

The deadline to apply is 31 January 2023, and the VNS project must be completed prior to 1 September 2023.

PUBLICATION FEES

Publication fees for open-access peer-reviewed publications can be funded by COST as long as the publication meets specific eligibility requirements. Publications must be the result of the work of the Action AND be authored by Action participants from at least 3 different COST Member countries OR by Action participants from at least 2 different COST Member countries and 1 NNC OR by Action participants from at least 2 different COST Member countries if resulting from an STSM funded by the Action. Please contact Vincenzo.Cardinale@uniroma1.it as far in advance of the publication as possible to confirm these eligibility requirements and to ensure that funding is available. Applications for publication fees will be considered on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted.
